More Information:
Levonelle One Step is also known as ´the morning after pill´ but you can take it up to 3 days (72 hours) after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. There is 1 round white tablet in the pack. It contains a hormone called levonorgestrel, the same hormone that is used in some versions of the mini-Pill.
It´s still not fully understood how Levonelle One Step® works because it depends on where you are in your cycle. For example:
- It may stop an egg being released from the ovary (ovulation)
- It may prevent sperm from fertilising any egg that may already have been released
- It may stop a fertilised egg from attaching itself to the lining of the womb
Levonelle One Step stops a pregnancy before it is established. It doesn´t work if you are already pregnant. The sooner you take Levonelle One Step, the more effective it is.
Caution:
Emergency contraceptive pills are not meant to be used as a regular method of contraception. If you´re sexually active, whether you have sex occasionally or frequently, you need to choose a regular long-term method of contraception that suits you.
You have to take Levonelle One Step emergency contraceptive pills within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. There is 1 tablet in the pack. The sooner you take it, the more likely it is to work. Ideally, you should try to take the tablet within 24 hours as this is when it is most effective.
This is a guide to the effectiveness of Levonelle One Step®, depending on how many hours have passed since you had unprotected sex.
If you´re worried about the possibility of an unplanned pregnancy, it´s important to act now rather than waiting till later
WARNING: Only purchase Levonelle One Step from Pharmacylink as a standby in case of a contraceptive failure. If you have already had unprotected sex it is important that you go to your local Pharmacy, GP, Family Planning Clinic, or Emergency Out of Hours Service and use Levonelle without any delay. |
